Reaping what you sow. Week 12 in the vegetable garden

yellow squash from a square-foot raised-bed vegetable garden
I had twisted one squash off the vine. But I found it's better to use a knife or clippers to harvest the fruits.

Home-grown yellow squash, green beans, red tomatoes and garlic found their way to our dinner table.

The garden yielded ripe fruits almost every day this week. We enjoyed yellow squash sauteed in olive oil with garlic; tomatoes with basil and parsley; and green beans cooked with store-bought onions.

The cosmos are finally blooming, along with multi-colored zinnias. These are along the border and are intended to attract pollinators. Hyssops are developing, but show no signs of buds.

Pole beans have germinated. I need to push the sprawling tomato plants out of the way so that they don't block the beans' access to sun and water.

A spider has taken up residence in the pea/bean trellis. I count her as part of my integrated pest management program.

Tomatoes (above and below) are in various states of development.

Like 3 peas in a pod. The remains of the pea pod planting.

A sport pepper is nestled among the two varieties of egg plant. The green bean plants provide a serving or two every few days.

This orange cosmos is intended to attract pollinators.

All of these items found their way to our dinner plates this past week.
